Route 139 Upper Westbound has undergone various improvements to improve safety, pedestrian accommodation, and aesthetics. The work completed includes reconstructed sidewalk and curb ramps and a new paver border to accent the wide sidewalks. New trees and tree grates have also been added along the sidewalk. The roadway has been freshly paved, eliminating driver discomfort, and refreshed lane and crosswalk markings have been implemented to increase vehicular and pedestrian safety.
Enhanced stamped colored crosswalks at all Route 139 Pedestrian crossings between east of JFK Blvd and Palisades Avenue are also planned. Work is to be performed in 2024 after coordination with Jersey City as per current Standards.
The Trolley Park is located along Route 139 Upper Eastbound between Baldwin Avenue and Oakland Avenue. The Trolley Park features a long, winding walking path that gives a dynamic appeal featuring areas of exposed cobblestone and rail to highlight Jersey City’s history. This is complimented with a Pavonia Avenue Car Line Interpretive Sign to further educate occupants of the park about the history of the once active trolley car line. Benches line the park for social seating as well as planting beds, mulching, flowering, and shade trees which provide an aesthetically pleasing atmosphere. Lighting, benches, trash receptacles, and bollards are included in the overall layout. Construction is in progress.
The Summit Avenue Park is located along Route 139 Upper Eastbound between Summit Avenue and St. Paul’s Avenue. The Summit Avenue Park has a central, open area to accommodate a wide range of uses including farmers markets, public art, cultural events, and much more. Unique and beautiful benches allow for social seating and planting beds, mulching, flowering, and shade trees for a dynamic and aesthetically pleasing experience. With the increasing number of cyclists in the city, bike racks are provided within the park for those who are riding along and want to stop and experience what Summit Avenue Park has to offer. Lighting, benches, bike racks, trash receptacles, and bollards are included in the overall layout. Construction is in progress.
